Haunted Mansion Dollhouse
It all began with a text from my best friend. This text included a TikTok video of a doll house transformation into a haunted mansion. She knew I need this in my life.
First I secured a doll house from Facebook marketplace. You don’t know the pain that this caused me knowing that I’ve given away so many of these dollhouses that my girls had as children . I could’ve had a haunted village . Insert face palm.
I found one for $20.00 and set up a meet date to pick the house up. The day before pick up she contacted me and said “ my sister saw online that this house is vintage and worth $350.00. Sorry hun but I cannot sell this to you for $20 and will not take less than $75.00 . “
First of all , this said “vintage” doll house has been online for a week and not one person was biting at it. Second of all I’m not sure how a doll house from the 2000’s is VINTAGE enough for someone to pay $350.00 for it . Third of all ,why are you asking $75.00 for something that is worth $350.00? Fourth of all , why are you a person that backs out on your promises and are now a shifty greedy gal ?
I personally feel that she found out that people are making haunted homes after our deal and she could get more for it than asking. Whatever the case, karma is not fun.
I politely ( because I’m that kind of a person) told her I’m not interested .
Back on Facebook market place I found a gem of a house that was significantly better than the original .
It’s big and magical ,has working lights and light up fireplace. There are balconies and vines climbing up the sides.
Next came the black spray paint !
Garfield kitty quickly fell in love with the house as did I . After spray painting the house and seeing it in all it’s glory, I decided to make this a bit of a passion project.
This year I am keeping it just black and placing lights in it. It looks very modern haunted which is fun!
After halloween I am going to place this project in my studio to transform it completely. I am going to turn each room of the house into a room that is featured in Halloween movies.
The attic will be turned into the Beetlejuice attic. One of the bedrooms is going to be Coraline’s bedroom. There is a room under the stairs for Harry Potter and the list goes on. A full outside transformation will happen as well. I am going to become one of those people hunting down doll house stuff and spending hours on little details. Insert another face palm
For this year’s version though I bought orange lights to place in the house. Due to the house having no glass in the windows, you could see in at the lights and it didn’t look wonderful .
I cut out tracing paper and hot glued it inside on each door and window.
After a few hot glue burns, the house was ready to shine.
I’m looking forward to each new stage this project will be in. I will be doing an ongoing series on it’s progress.
Now it’s your turn ! This version of the house cost me a total of $40.00 . The doll house was $30.00 and spray paint and lights were $10.00. I already had tracing paper and hot glue. If you know someone who has a dollhouse laying around, you can do this project for under $20.00.
Go secure your dollhouse on Facebook marketplace and share your finished project with me . I’d love to see it !!
